Whitey honors Vance

This performance, as part of Revolve Now at the Asheville Art Museum in 2019 was a continuation of a decade + long performance series and research project in which I use a character named “Whitey” to de-naturalize whiteness, and point to the absurdity and maintenance of white supremacy in the United States.

For this project in particular I was interested in how the legacy of Zebulon B. Vance casts a long shadow, both figuratively and literally on (my current hometown) Asheville, North Carolina.
